Second protest in front of Emigrant Savings Bank, 51 Chambers St.

WHY: The Council vote was originally scheduled for 1:30pm, Wednesday, but shifted to Tuesday, then announced for 8pm. So protest originally scheduled for noon will proceed, but a second protest will take place from 7 pm until after the vote happens.
“While teacher layoffs were apparently avoided, more than 1,000 city jobs in health care will still be cut. Childcare programs will be de-funded. City libraries, which thousands of New Yorkers rely on for job help and computer access, will still face cutbacks. Tuition for CUNY students is set to rise continuously for years.
The Bloombergville coalition has called on all its supporters to join this protest, and make plans for continued efforts to force the Bloomberg administration to use the $3 billion+ “rainy day fund” to serve the interests of New Yorks, instead of merely serving the interests of the banks.”

Noontime Rally at Bloombergville Against Budget Cuts:
No Free Lunch for Bankers and Millionaires
Monday, June 20 – 12 PM, Broadway between Barclay and Park Place
The protesters who have occupied downtown Manhattan since Tuesday, June 14, have announced plans for a lunchtime rally declaring “No Free Lunch for Bankers and Millionaires” as the next step in the campaign to defeat the mayor’s cutbacks and layoffs.
Scheduled for 12 PM Monday on Broadway between Park Place and Barclay Street, the event will protest Mayor Bloomberg’s devastating cuts to vital services — with a focus on the many municipal workers who work in the downtown area around City Hall and whose jobs and compensation are under attack by the Mayor.
Following the rally, Bloombergville will host a “Billionaires’ Lunch” in City Hall Park, where a group of “billionaires” will discuss the Mayor’s success in advancing their shared agenda of slashing public services, cutting workers’ pay, attacking job security and executing their ongoing plan to rob from the poor to give to the rich
In the evening, members of Bloombergville will deliver a crown to the Mayor’s personal residence at 17 East 79th Street at 6 PM on Monday to recognize his achievements as the reigning monarch of Bloombergville
The campaign against Bloomberg’s poverty budget has attracted widespread media attention as well as the support of New York’s unions, with AFSCME DC 37, the city’s largest public sector union, and the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY, the faculty union of the City University of New York, delivering food in the past week and Transport Workers Union Local 100, the union of public transit workers, delivering dinner Monday evening.

Bloombergville Street Festival and Rally Against The Mayor’s Disastrous Budget Cuts
Saturday, June 18 – 5 PM, Broadway between Barclay and Park Place
The protesters who have occupied downtown Manhattan for the past week have announced plans for a Bloombergville Street Festival and Rally as the next step int he campaign to defeat the mayor’s cutbacks and layoffs.
Scheduled for 5 PM Saturday on Broadway between Park Place and Barclay, the event will feature music, performances and political speakers and serve as a building rally for Monday’s larger demonstration at 2 PM.
The campaign against Bloomberg’s poverty budget has attracted widespread media attention as well as the support of New York’s unions, with AFSCME DC 37, the city’s largest public sector union, delivering food to the encampment Tuesday night. Professional Staff Congress, the AFT union at CUNY, is delivering dinner tonight.
Arrests were made Thursday morning of some of the protesters and the NYPD has threatened arrests on several other occasions, but Bloombergville is still alive — and growing.

at City Hall Park
PROTESTERS VOW TO STAY UNTIL
BLOOMBERG BUDGET IS DEFEATED
In the face of police harassment, which included threats of arrest, the Bloombergville occupation was successfully established at City Hall Park last night. Protesters vowed to stay “until the Mayor’s disastrous pro-banker, anti-people budget is defeated.”
Brenda Stokely, a protest leader and member of AFSCME District Council 37, Local 371, explained that Bloombergville will serve as an organizing center for the growing opposition movement to the Mayor’s budget proposal.
The Bloombergville protest was aunched on the heels of a rally by 20,000 union members — including city workers, teachers, transit employees and others –against budget cuts on the other side of City Hall.
Inspired by the “Walkerville” protest in Wisconsin, as well as Tahrir Square in Egypt, and Puerta del Sol in Spain, the Bloombergville organizers hope to create a new spirit of resistance and fightback to the current raft of daycare cuts, school closings and massive layoffs.
Organizers are reaching out through social media such as Facebook and Twitter. They have also created a blog site: Bloombergvillenow.org. The blog site carries ongoing “tweets” as well as photos, live video footage and ongoing reports from the protest.
Larry Hales, a founder of the CUNY Mobilization Network, said, “After years of cuts that have diminished services affecting average New Yorkers across the board from transportation to healthcare to education, the Bloomberg Administration’s new budget proposes further cuts the people of the city can no longer tolerate.”
Hales concluded saying “We plan to stay until Bloomberg’s budget is defeated.”

“Bloombergville” protest to start in City Hall Park Tuesday,
June 14, and “stay till Bloomberg’s budget is defeated!”
Mayor Bloomberg’s executive budget proposes drastic cuts to public services all New Yorkers need: cutting $67 million from higher education, $90 million from public libraries and $51 million from the city’s child care budget. He proposes to close 20 firehouses and 25 senior centers; to eliminate rent subsidies for 45,000 city residents; and eliminate 6,000+ teachers’ jobs.
The Mayor insists the city is broke and that these cuts are necessary. But there is a budget surplus of $3.2 billion which he rejects using to prevent budget cuts and layoffs. He refuses to support the “millionaires’ tax” or the stock transfer tax to increase city revenue.
Workers, students and community members affected by the cuts will initiate a sleep-out encampment, “Bloombergville,” to send this message to the mayor: “No cuts! Tax the wealthy!” The sleep-out will take place on the sidewalk without tents, and thus be legal and constitutionally protected, according to a judicial decision in the case of Met Council v. NYPD on June 12, 2000.

be seen, heard, and tasted. With so many foreign countries calling for freedom
and democracy, how can America and Americans turn a deaf ear to the pleas of
their citizens to that which is suppose to be native to our country. Are we
bringing third world conditions to our country and exporting democracy outside
our country. What a strange twist. Our jobs and now our democracy.
We however, will not be moved, we will fight. No matter how high the mountain
